The institutional visit of the Hon. Marcello Gemmato was an opportunity to show up close everything that our Institute does daily in favor of animal health and food safety and that has as its objective the health of the Apulian and Lucanian community. The General Director, Antonio Fasanella, explained that the Institute is a virtuous institution but experiences the problem of understaffing. We can count on 247 employees and, every year, we carry out more than 1 million analyses covering the needs of a population of over 4 and a half million inhabitants of Apulia and Lucania. We could do even more, having additional highly specialized professional figures available such as, for example, bioinformaticians, engineers, statisticians, biotechnologists who would increase our competitiveness. Undersecretary Gemmato has repeatedly reiterated that this problem, which also affects other National Health Institutions, will be addressed as a priority in the appropriate venues.
All the staff of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Puglia and Basilicata greatly appreciated the words of the Hon. Marcello Gemmato, who committed himself to the Government being able to modify the 2009 law that limits the personnel spending ceiling to that of 2004 reduced by 1.4%. If this were to happen, it would allow the IZSPB to invest its budget surpluses in jobs.
